IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE COMMEMORATION OF YAHRZEITS

COMING January 1st, 2021

Dear Members of Temple Anshe Sholom,

Over the months of the pandemic since the Temple Office has been closed, we have used the time to review our membership data in order to best remain connected with our members and assure the information we have about you and your loved ones is accurate and up to date.

One of the problem areas we have identified is the maintenance of Yahrzeit information. Over the years, our Yahrzeit records have been maintained in various formats and we have discovered is that this information is not consistent across all platforms. Therefore, in order for this crucial information to be consistent and accurate, we will be implementing new procedures for the compiling of the Yahrzeit lists to be read for Kaddish and notifications to those who are observing the Yahrzeit.

Effective January 1st, 2021, Yahrzeit lists will be compiled exclusively from the information contained in ShulCloud, our membership management program. As is the default in ShulCloud and Jewish tradition, Yahrzeits will be observed according to the date in the Hebrew calendar. However, if you would prefer to have the name of your loved one read according to the English calendar, and receive notification for the English date, you will continue to have that option.

We ask that you log in to ShulCloud and review the Yahrzeit information that is associated with your account. There you can update the information and indicate your preference for the Hebrew or English date by simply clicking a box. While you are reviewing your Yahrzeit information, you can also review other information associated with your account, such as names (Hebrew and English), postal and email address, telephone numbers, associated family members, etc. The more complete and accurate information we have about you, the better we can serve you.

You can access your ShulCloud account by going to:

https://templeanshesholom.shulcloud.com/

Login with your email address and password, and then go to the top of the screen, next to the TAS logo and click on “MY ACCOUNT”. There you will find a menu allowing you to review and update all of your Yahrzeit and other personal information.

If you have not previously used ShulCloud, please contact Brenda McAlpine in our Temple Office. She will help you set up your preferred email and password to gain access to your account. You can reach Brenda at 905-528-0121, ext. 22, or bmcalpine@anshesholom.ca. If you have any other questions about your Yahrzeits, please contact Rabbi Cohen at 905-528-0121, ext. 24 or rabbijc@anshesholom.ca.

The Deborah Sisterhood will continue to mail notifications cards to members in advance of all Yahrzeits according to the information in ShulCloud. We encourage you to support the Deborah Sisterhood through a memorial donation to the Deborah Sisterhood Flower Fund.

Remembrance is an important mitzvah in our Jewish tradition. We do our best to honour the memory our loved ones through the observance of their Yahrzeit, the timely and accurate commemoration of their passing. Zechronam l’vracha – May their memories always be a blessing.

L’Shalom,

Rabbi Jordan D. Cohen
