Affirming Jewish Identity and Commitment
“Turn it and turn it, for everything is in it.” – Pirkei Avot 5:22
Confirmation is a powerful opportunity for young adults to affirm their Jewish identity and commitment post-B’nai Mitzvah. Confirmation students continue their Jewish learning from Grade 8 through Grade 10, exemplifying the goal of lifelong learning. This is a powerful time of transition for our young people as they truly become independent thinkers and are ready to engage in adult study.
At Temple Anshe Sholom, Rabbi Cohen and our Director of Religious Education, Dora-Ann Cohen-Ellison, will guide your child through this impactful time. Their studies will culminate in a special service, which they lead, and a special trip or event to mark the completion of their senior year of Torah study.
Study and Reflection: Our confirmation program includes an in-depth study of Jewish texts, ethical discussions, and engagement with contemporary Jewish issues.
Ceremony and Celebration: The confirmation ceremony is a special event that highlights the students’ achievements and their commitment to Jewish life. It includes prayers, speeches, and a celebration with family and friends. Following the service, we encourage families to celebrate with an Oneg Shabbat or Kiddush luncheon, sharing the joy with our community.
Community Involvement: We encourage confirmands to take active roles in our synagogue and broader community, fostering leadership and responsibility.
