Honouring Life and Memory

“The dust returns to the ground as it was, and the soul returns to God who bestowed it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7

Funerals are solemn yet meaningful occasions that honour the lives of loved ones and provide comfort to the bereaved. Rabbi Cohen and Cantor Baruch offer compassionate support and guidance during these times.

Our tradition offers several powerful end of life rituals – Kriah (tearing of a garment), Levayah (funeral procession), Hesped (eulogy), Kevurah (burial), and Shivah (seven days of mourning). Our clergy will advise you on these and other related rituals and will work with the mortuary to support you making the funeral arrangements during a very difficult and challenging time. Our clergy officiate at the funeral service, will arrange leadership for all Shivah Minyanim, and will help you understand and implement other meaningful Jewish mourning practices.

Funeral Services:
We work with families to create a dignified and respectful funeral service that honours the deceased’s life and legacy. This includes traditional prayers, eulogies, and personal reflections.

Shivah and Mourning:
We provide guidance on observing Shiva (the initial mourning period), offering support through prayers, visits, and community involvement.

Unveiling Ceremony:
One year after the funeral, we offer our assistance with the unveiling of the headstone, a ceremony that marks the end of the formal mourning period and honours the memory of the departed.
